I want to install Windows ten preview on my PC but am nervous to do it considering it'southward my only PC. Right at present I take 3 drives in my PC, a SSD for my OS (Win seven), a ane TB HDD for storage and an former 256 GB drives that is empty. I wanted to install Windows 10 on the empty drive and boot off of that to run across what Windows ten is similar but kickoff wanted to brand sure I can select where Windows will install then it doesn't wipe my C: drive. I was also wondering if it'southward only equally simple as going into BIOS and selecting the Windows 10 drive as the kicking drive and if whatsoever problems could come up from that. Cheers.

I want to install Windows 10 preview on my PC simply am nervous to exercise it because it'southward my only PC. Right now I have 3 drives in my PC, a SSD for my Os (Win vii), a ane TB HDD for storage and an old 256 GB drives that is empty. I wanted to install Windows 10 on the empty drive and boot off of that to encounter what Windows 10 is like but first wanted to brand sure I can select where Windows will install so it doesn't wipe my C: drive. I was also wondering if it's just equally simple as going into BIOS and selecting the Windows x drive every bit the kick drive and if any problems could come from that. Thanks.

Yes you can.
In the Windows install routine, you lot select which drive to install to.

Yet....
If you do this with all of your drives connected, the Windows 10 kicking director volition take over the boot selection procedure.
You will end upwardly with a menu like this:

The ensuing problem lies in when the Tech Preview dies (Oct 1, 2015). You will be stuck with that menu.

Way around this?
Disconnect all drives except the one y'all want Win 10 on.
Then, to cull which Bone to kick into, you choose in the BIOS every time.

In that location are a few tools that will permit y'all to edit the kicking process, simply that is a different give-and-take.

Yes yous tin.
In the Windows install routine, yous select which drive to install to.

However....
If you do this with all of your drives connected, the Windows 10 boot manager will take over the boot selection process.

What happens to the product key at this signal? if you have your qualifying install on another bulldoze?

Does information technology mean if you always take an issue with win7 yous take to buy a new re-create to re-install?

And how would you manage to boot with all merely the intended drive installed? As at that point you wouldnt have a bulldoze with qualifying OS connected to embark download?

I ask every bit i dont want to loose win7 on this pc right now incase of issues and its the only one in house strong enough to deal with win 10 for testing.

What happens to the production central at this bespeak? if you have your qualifying install on some other drive?

Does it mean if yous e'er have an consequence with win7 you take to buy a new copy to re-install?

And how would you lot manage to kicking with all but the intended bulldoze installed? As at that indicate you wouldnt accept a drive with qualifying Bone connected to commence download?

No. From the OP's clarification, his Win vii is all the same fully valid. 10 TP is going on a whole other drive.
It'south simply more of a pain, because you have that not-existent Win 10 TP hanging out there, messing upwards the kick bill of fare.

How to kick? Y'all boot from the Win x install media. Just like any other OS install.

Now...if you blow away your Win vii to install the Win ten TP...you'd accept to reinstall Win 7 to authorize for the free upgrade to 10 RTM.

Ok, And so my current layout is Win 7 on SSD, and a mirror on a HDD.

Im guessing it would be... unfortunate to put win10 on the mirror drive, because of possible complications.
And then If i were to get a new drive, to put 10 on and disconnect my other drives, I have no Bone to sign upward for testing surely?

I call up I am confusing myself :p

I havent downloaded win10 yet, for the reason that it confuses me how to become nigh this.

Does the build come as files to burn to disc to kick from or just it DL and "update" your current copy?

I also thought that if y'all took the test build it assigned your product key from your current OS to the new win10, and wouldnt work again for the quondam OS?

You download an ISO file. This you burn to DVD or USB stick.

Use that to install.

Currently, it is a total standalone OS install. No Upgrade from your current Win 7.

Finish of side by side month, when information technology is actually released, y'all tin can either Upgrade your current Windows 7, or obtain an ISO, and install it that mode for a clean install.
